Quick – what do John Belushi and Edward R. Murrow have in common? Well, okay, they both dressed up as Elizabeth Taylor, but Belushi did it on television. I was thinking that they both had Bernie Brillstein in common.

As the entertainment industry evolved from the old days of the studio system, the culture shaping power of the Louis B. Mayer/Jack Warner style of mogul morphed into the more modern version of the influential producer/manager on a hot streak.

Bernie Brillstein, who maintained his own hot streak of putting his fingerprints on our popular culture for nearly fifty years, has died. Read through this detailed obituary/biography from Hollywood yenta Nikki Finke and take note of the amazing amount of influential things Brillstein had been a moving force behind.

He wrote his own version of his story as well and he comes across as a pretty decent guy.
