Ollie Johnson, the last surviving member of the team of longtime Disney animators known as “The Nine Old Men,” died today. He was 95 (wow!).

He was a supervising animator on my favorite Disney feature, Lady & The Tramp, as well as animator or supervisor on a slew of other Disney classics. And like so many other Disney laborers, often went uncredited in favor of Walt’s supposed authorship of everything under the Disney brand (Carl Barks being the most prominent in my mind.) Johnson & his longtime associates were amazingly influential in the field of animation, and current giants of cartoon making like John Lasseter and Brad Bird will always acknowledge that.
